Greenville Drive News Release

Charleston, SC - For the second straight day the Drive (42-32, 3-3) found themselves behind 3-0 early to the Charleston RiverDogs (42-35, 3-4). And for the second consecutive day, Greenville rallied in a big way as they defeated their cross-state rival 10-5 at Riley Park.

However, the runs came in a much different fashion on Tuesday than in the previous game. The Drive managed to plate double-digit runs while only collecting five hits, but took advantage of the 10 base on balls that four Charleston hurlers issued.

Trailing 3-0 heading into the top of the third, the Drive began their comeback. Greenville's first run came with no hits recorded as the RiverDogs' Andrew Brackman (1-7) walked Jon Hee, Pete Hissey, and Zach Gentile before Jered Stanley lifted a sacrifice fly.

It was more of the same an inning later as Hissey collected an RBI on a sacrifice fly after Brackman loaded the bases with walks to Kade Keowen, Mitch Dening, and Hee. Following another walk to Gentile, Brackman was pulled in favor of Dan Kapala, who was greeted by a grand slam off the bat of Will Middlebrooks, giving the Drive a 6-3 lead.

Although he did not issue a hit in 3-2/3 innings, Brackman was charged with five runs, mainly due to the fact that he surrendered eight walks.

The RiverDogs pulled within a run in the bottom of the fifth as Corban Joseph belted a two-run homer. But the Drive put the game out of reach in the eighth inning, scoring four runs in a more common way with three hits.

It was Hee who shined with the bases loaded this time, doubling home Keowen and Dening who had reached by a hit by pitch and single, respectively. Hissey then followed with a two-run triple in his only official at-bat after hitting a sac fly and walking twice in his previous plate appearances.

Stolmy Pimentel (7-3) was the beneficiary of the Drive's unusual scoring, moving into a tie for fifth in the South Atlantic League in wins despite allowing five runs in 5.0 innings. The right-hander surrendered eight hits and tied a season-high with seven strikeouts before giving way to the bullpen.

A pair of southpaws, Lance McClain and Armando Zerpa, combined to hold the ‘Dogs scoreless over the game's final four innings. McClain went 2-1/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and a walk, with four punchouts. Zerpa tossed the final 1-2/3 frames, surrendering one hit and striking out three Charleston batters.

The Drive and RiverDogs meet in the third game of a four-game series on Thursday with first pitch set for 7:05 PM. Lefty Nick Hagadone (0-1, 3.86) will head to the hill for Greenville, while Charleston manager Torre Tyson has yet to announce his starting pitcher.

The Drive return home to Fluor Field and begin the home portion of the second half of the regular season on Saturday, July 4th. First pitch is set for 6:05 PM as Fluor Field will stay open after the game for fans to view the City of Greenville's fireworks from the field. Single-game tickets, group outings, and luxury accommodations can be purchased by calling (864) 240-4500 or visit www.GreenvilleDrive.com for more information.
