OMAHA, NE - Omaha Royals right-hander Kyle Davies was named today by the Pacific Coast League as the PCL Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 22-28. Las Vegas third baseman Kevin Howard earned the PCL Batter of the Week award.

Davies, who began the season with Kansas City, was dominant in his first start with Omaha last Thursday at Memphis. He fired eight scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and one walk, while striking out eight Redbirds. Reliever Dusty Hughes finished off the combined four-hitter as the Royals won 7-0, posting their league-leading ninth shutout of the season.

Davies, 25, retired the first eight Memphis batters he faced before issuing his only walk. He did not give up a hit until Mark Shorey doubled with two outs in the fifth. Of Davies' 98 pitches last Thursday, 64 were for strikes.

In 14 starts for Kansas City this season, Davies is 3-7 with a 5.76 ERA. He's 3-4 with an 8.12 ERA at Kauffman Stadium, while going 0-3 despite posting a 3.26 ERA on the road.

In 2008, Davies opened the year with Omaha and was 6-2 with a PCL-leading 2.06 ERA in ten starts before being recalled by Kansas City on May 31. He went 9-7 with a 4.06 ERA in 21 starts for the parent Royals, setting career bests in wins and ERA.

Davies joins Luke Hochevar as winners of the PCL Pitcher of the Week honors this season. Hochevar earned the award for the week of April 27-May 3, when he won two starts and allowed just one unearned run in 13 innings. Hochevar, 25, is currently pitching with KC and is 2-3 with a 5.87 ERA in seven starts.

Davies' next scheduled start is Tuesday when the Royals host the Albuquerque Isotopes in a 12:05 p.m. game at Rosenblatt Stadium.

Howard won the PCL Batter of the Week award after hitting .500 (12-for-24) with two home runs and nine RBI in six games for Las Vegas.
