TinCaps Host Peanut-Free Night at Parkview Field on June 25th
June 17, 2009 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
Fort Wayne, IN - The Fort Wayne TinCaps will be creating a "peanut-free" zone at Parkview Field next Thursday night, June 25th, as the team hosts Peanut-Free Night for the 2009 season. The 7:05pm game versus the South Bend Silver Hawks will be without some common items normally found at the ballpark.
"We understand that for many children and adults in our community their severe allergies prevent them from attending a game at Parkview Field," said TinCaps Team President, Mike Nutter. "The least we can do is create an environment in which they can safely attend a game without fear of a severe reaction. We selected the first game back from a long road trip so that debris from previous games was less of a factor."
The TinCaps, who control all food and beverage service within Parkview Field, will coordinate their menu for the day to accommodate for those with allergies. "There are the simple items to remove, like peanuts and candy that contain peanuts, those are easy," said Bill Lehn, TinCaps Director of Food and Beverage. "It's the other items that contain peanuts, or peanut products, that we really seek out to eliminate for that day."
Studies by the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, show more than four million Americans suffer from some type of peanut allergy, and those same people, by just being around a peanut or peanut shell, tasting, smelling, or touching, can be life threatening.
Items that will not be available include peanuts, M&M's, Snickers, Cracker Jack, Crunch Bars and Drumsticks. Any other item containing peanuts will not be available for purchase before, during or after the game.
Tickets are still available for the "Peanut-Free" game on June 25th and can be purchased by logging on to TinCaps.com, calling the TinCaps Ticket Office at (260) 482-6400, or by visiting the Parkview Field Ticket Office during normal business hours.
