Carolina Mudcats News Release

Jacksonville, FL --- Chris Heisey hit a solo home run leading off the 12th inning to push the Carolina Mudcats past the Jacksonville Suns 3-2 on Tuesday night from the Baseball Grounds.

The win maintains the Mudcats' 2 1/2 game deficit behind first-place Huntsville with 10 games remaining in the first half.

Heisey lofted a two-strike pitch inside the foul pole in the left field corner, just clearing the 321' sign to give the Mudcats (33-26) their second one-run lead. Carolina took a 2-1 game to the bottom of the ninth before a Lorenzo Scott with two outs tied the game, smacking the right-centerfield wall to score Chris Hatcher, who had reached on a two-base throwing error by Juan Francisco.

Logan Ondrusek (W, 2-0) earned the win by pitching through a two-out, bases loaded jam in the 11th, and fanned Lee Mitchell with the tying run at first base to end the game in the 12th.

Trailing 1-0 in the fifth, the Mudcats tied the game on a single by Yonder Alonso to score pinch-hitter Eric Eymann, who had doubled. The Mudcats claimed their first lead of the game in the sixth when Francisco scored on a double play ball by Jose Castro.

Tom Cochran made the fill-in start for James Avery, who was scratched from Tuesday night's start yesterday. Cochran worked four innings, permitting just three hits and two walks, but just one run. The Mudcats used five relievers in the game to pitch the final eight innings.

The Suns (28-32) left 14 runners aboard during the game and were retired in order just once by Carolina.

Francisco collected his first four-hit game of the season, going 4-6 to lead the 13-hit assault.

Carolina enjoys its first off day in a month on Wednesday before opening its final homestand of the first half against West Tenn on Thursday night. Zach Stewart (3-0, 0.39) makes the start for the Mudcats against West Tenn's Steve Bray (1-3 3.62)
