Tennessee Smokies News Release

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - The 2,688 fans that made the trip to Smokies Park Tuesday night in hopes of witnessing Tennessee's first five-game sweep since 2006 were not disappointed, as Casey Lambert's masterful pitching performance propelled the Smokies to a 3-1 win over the Chattanooga Lookouts. With the win Tennessee improves to 26-34 on the year. Chattanooga falls to 23-36.

Tennessee continued their series-long trend of scoring first, as they broke through with a run in the bottom of the third. Lambert led the inning with a double off Lookouts starter Scott Elbert (2-1) and would move to third on a Tony Thomas sacrifice bunt. Darwin Barney then delivered a sacrifice fly to score Lambert and give the Smokies the early 1-0 lead.

The Smokies struck again with another run in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs, Thomas singled and then stole second, his seventh steal of the year. Barney would deliver again with runners in scoring position, this time on a single up the middle to score Thomas and make it 2-0 Smokies.

Chattanooga and Tennessee would trade runs in the seventh. The Lookouts would get their first and only run of the game on Mike Rose's second home run of the season. The Smokies responded in the bottom of the frame with three consecutive hits off Elbert. Barney, Ty Wright and Marquez Smith hit back-to-back singles, with the latter driving in Barney to give the Smokies a 3-1 lead.

Brian Schlitter came in to relieve Lambert with two outs in the seventh and allowed only one hit over 1.1 innings. John Gaub (S, 3) closed out the Lookouts with two strikeouts to get the save.

Lambert (4-4) picked up the win Tuesday night, scattering six hits on 6.2 innings of work. He would allow only one run and struck out eight. He did not allow a walk in his 76-pitch effort.

Following a day off on Wednesday, Tennessee hits the road for five games against the Mobile BayBears. The Smokies return home next Wednesday for a five-game series against the Carolina Mudcats. Ticket and homestand information can be found at www.smokiesbaseball.com or by calling (865) 286-2300.
