Mudcats Take Sixth Straight

Zebulon, NC- The Mudcats continued their winning ways, making it six straight victories with a 5-4 win over the Montgomery Biscuits Tuesday night at Five County Stadium.
The Mudcats pitching staff posted a solid performance, striking out 12 while only walking only one. Starting pitcher Alexander Smit allowed three earned runs over five, while fanning seven. Logan Ondrusek (W, 1-0) came out of the bullpen to throw two scoreless innings while striking out three. Ramon Geronimo (S, 3) closed out the game with a perfect ninth for Carolina.
Juan Francisco picked up two RBI's in the game, hitting a sacrifice fly in the third and singling in Zack Cozart in the seventh. The Mudcats took the lead for good on an RBI single from Todd Frazier that plated Francisco. Frazier also drove in a run in the third with a single to left.
Fernando Cortez and Desmond Jennings homered for the Biscuits. Cortez hit a solo shot into the short porch in right, while Jennings hit a two-run homer to deep left in the fifth.
The series resumes at 7:15 PM Wednesday night at Five County Stadium. The Mudcats (22-23) will send Zach Stewart (1-0, 0.00) to the mound against lefty Brandon Mann (2-2, 5.02) of Montgomery.
