YESTERDAY: The Altoona Curve split a twinight double-header on Friday night at Canal Park. Akron won the first contests, 3-2 in 9 innings. A four-run, come-from-behind victory in the nightcap propelled Altoona to their first road victory of the 2009 season.
TODAY'S GAME AT A GLANCE: The Altoona Curve look to make it two in a row tonight at Canal Park against the Akron Aeros (AA - Cleveland), who boasts the best record in the Eastern League at 12-3.
TODAY'S STARTING PITCHERS: LHP Daniel Moskos takes the hill for Altoona in his third start of the 2009 season. Last time out, Moskos got the win versus the Erie SeaWolves. This is his second career start against Akron. On 4/15 at Canal Park, Moskos suffered the loss en route to walking a career-high five batters over 3.1 IP.
Chuck Lofgren will get the ball for the Aeros. Lofgren is in his third season with the Akron Aeros. In 2007, Lofgren sported a 12-7 record for Akron in 26 starts. In '08, Lofgren went 2-6 mark with a 5.99 ERA. Lofgren was ranked as the No. 2-rated prospect by Baseball America in the Cleveland chain a year ago, but is not listed among the Top 30 this year. Tonight, Lofgren will make his 10th career start against Altoona. He has an all-time mark of 3-2 against Altoona.
CENTURY MARK: With last night's come-from-behind victory against Akron, Altoona secured their 100th victory all-time against Akron.
CANAL CURSE: Entering the 2009 season, Altoona had a dismal all-time record of 40-60 when playing at Akron. So far this season, history has held true to form. The Curve are just 1-4 in five games played so far this season on the Aeros' home turf.
BULL OF A PEN: Over the last 10 games, Altoona's bullpen has been called to duty often. They have come through, tossing 45.0 innings over that span, allowing just eight earned runs (1.60 ERA)...RHP Lincoln Holdzkom has also not allowed a run in his last four outings (7.0 ip)
HACKSAW JIM: Curve second baseman Jim Negrych is on tearing up Eastern League pitching as the University of Pittsburgh product is in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak. Negrych is 13-for-28 (.464) over that span.
