
Gladiators Fall to Everblades 4-2 in Game 4, Trail Series 3 games to 1

wo second period goals could not help the Gwinnett Gladiators Friday night as they fell 4-2 in Game 4 to the Florida Everblades. With the win, the Everblades take a commanding 3-games-to-1 series lead in the best of 7 Division Semi-Finals. Florida took the lead first at 3:23 of the first with a goal from Steve McJannett. Defenceman Doug O'Brien passed the puck to McJannett from the defensive zone who notched the marker from the right face-off circle. Mark Lee notched his third post-season goal at 17:43 of the same period on the power play to give the Everblades the 2-0 lead.
Dan Sullivan finally put the Gladiators on the board with a power play goal at 8:36 of the second with assists from Tom Zanoski and Scott Marchesi. Just 41 seconds later, Pat Batman notched his second post-season goal to even the score at two. Zanoski's assist pushed his point scoring streak to four consecutive playoff games.
The Everblades re-took the lead at 13:05 of the final stanza when Ross Carlson put the puck into the upper corner of the net on the power play. Ernie Hartlieb notched an assist on the goal. Carlson sealed the deal for the Everblades with an empty-netter with just two seconds to go in the contest.
With the loss, the Gladiators fall three games to one to the Everblades in the series. It's do-or-die for Gwinnett as they face Florida for Game 5 on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
Began in 1988-89 with five teams playing in four states, the Premier âAA' Hockey League has grown into a coast-to-coast league that will have 23 teams in 16 states and British Columbia playing 864 games from Oct. 17, 2008 to Apr. 4, 2009. Eighteen of the 23 teams have played at least five years in their current city.
The third-longest tenured professional hockey league behind only the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League, the ECHL averaged 4,174 per game last season, marking the fourth year in row and the 16th time in the last 18 years that the league has averaged over 4,000 fans. The league has drawn over four million fans each of the last five years and 11 times in the past 12 seasons.
