Charleston S.C. - The Checkers had another chance to put the Stingrays on the brink of elimination but were unable to do it for the second consecutive game losing 4-1. THE SOUTH DIVISION BREAKDOWN
The Gwinnett Gladiators got their first win of the series against the heavily favored Florida Everblades last night in an overtime thriller. Forward Tom Zanoski scored just past the midway mark of the first overtime period on goaltender David Leggio to give Gwinett a chance in the series. In the previous game in the series, it was the Everblades who skated away with an overtime decision. Gwinnett captures a monstrous and much needed home victory but must find a way to win on the road in order to win the series.
CHECKERS ON RADIO FOR PLAYOFFS!
In coordination with the official radio home of the Charlotte Checkers, WFNZ, the team will be broadcasting several games through the station during at least the first round of the post season.
Games one, two, four, five and six will be carried live on WFNZ 610 AM. Also, all games will be available through the B2 Network and streamed online for free at www.gocheckers.com or by clicking mms://208.67.186.169/charlotte at the time each game is scheduled to begin.
"Playing at Extreme Ice may limit the number of fans in attendance but no one has to miss anything that takes place during the games because of our great relationship with WFNZ and the B2 Network," remarked Shaya. "There will be some special guests during the broadcasts and everyone will be excited for the best time of the year."
All broadcasts will begin as the puck drops at 7:00 p.m.
KEYS TO GAME FIVE
Forget about the last two games: The Checkers may be reeling a bit here from back to back losses against the Stingrays. However, if they hope to win this series, they must have their focused squarely placed on tonight's affair. Game fives usually dictate who will come away with the series and tonight everything is on the line.
Get to the net: There is no coincidence that the previous two losses have seen a lot less scoring chances from the front of the net on South Carolina netminder Jonathan Boutin. Charlotte has made it easy for him the previous two games and that must change tonight or the results will be the same.
Power-play efficiency: The power-play has been neutralized by the Stingrays in the previous two games. This series won't last much longer if they continue to go scoreless with the man-advantage. Getting back to the game one and two strategy of shooting pucks from everywhere must be the theme again tonight.
The Checkers are playing their 16th season of play as a member of the ECHL. In the team's 16-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 12 times including five consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers are in their fourth season of play at Time Warner Cable Arena. For season ticket information, please call 704-342-4-ICE or visit www.gocheckers.com.
