Beef to Battle Storm this Sunday

March 27, 2009 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Omaha Beef News Release

The Omaha Beef look to extend their winning start against Sioux Falls after holding off the Wichita Wild in their opening game, 41-36. The Beef have one of the most efficient passing games in the IFL at the moment, completing 21 of their 28 attempts (.750), bested only by only the Billings Outlaws at 17 for 21 (.810). They've converted on 5 of their 6 trips to the red zone, with all 5 of those successful trips resulting in a touchdown. Quarterback James McNear is entering his third year with the Beef, where he led the team in both passing yards (2163) and rushing yards (575) during the 2008 season.

The Sioux Falls Storm comes into Sunday's game having just snapped the 26-game win streak held by the Rochester Raiders. Sioux Falls are 2-0 on the season and are playing well on both sides of the ball as they lead the league in first downs (33) and sacks (8, for a loss of 46 yards). The Storm has also converted on all three fourth downs they've attempted. Quarterback Terrance Bryant is returning for his fourth season with the Storm, having led the team to the UIF title in each of his previous campaigns. He currently sits fifth in the league in passing yards (180.5), just ahead of Omaha's James McNear (167).

The Beef are 2-6 in matchups against Sioux Falls dating back to 2005. In their last meeting, the Beef defeated the Storm 34-18 in Omaha to snap the 40-game win streak Sioux Falls had built up. Their March 29, 2008 victory was the Beef's first win over the Storm since July 2, 2005, which is the same season that Sioux Falls began their unbeaten run.

Sunday's game kicks off at 3:05 central time. For those who can not attend the road trip, a viewing party will be held at Indigo Joe's, located at 7425 Dodge Street.
