
Hat Trick! Spirit beat Sting 7-1

(Saginaw, MI) The Saginaw Spirit beat the Sarnia Sting 7-1 Saturday night. Richard Jarusek tallied his first OHL career hat trick in the effort. The Spirit end the weekend with a record of 1-1, and the win tonight adds two points for a total of 33 points. The Spirit are in second place in the OHL West Division and third place in the OHL Western Conference with a record of 16-8-0-1.
The Spirit jumped on the score board early with a goal from defenseman T.J. Brodie (NHL CALGARY FLAMES) at 0:58 in the first period. Wingers Chris Chappell and Jordan Skellett assisted Brodie on the goal. Chappell scored the next Saginaw goal on a power play assisted by center Jack Combs and Brodie. The goal was scored at the 4:05 mark and gave the Spirit at 2-0 lead. Spirit winger Richard Jarusek knocked one in at 12:37 in the period, assisted by center John Kavanagh and Brodie. The goal was his first of the night. The Sting were able to slip one past Spirit goalie Edward Pasquale at 13:26; the power-play goal was scored by center Jamie Arniel and assisted by defenseman Mark Katic and winger Matt Martin. The first period concluded with the Spirit ahead 3-1.
The Spirit continued their scoring ways in the second period. The first was scored by winger Jordan Szwarz at 3:55 of the second period. Defenseman Nick Crawford (NHL BUFFALO SABRES) and winger Joe Pleckaitis assisted in the goal, moving the score at 4-1. Combs tallied the next goal for the Spirit on a power play at 7:25 of the second period, assisted by Crawford and Chappell. The Spirit held onto the 5-1 lead for the remainder of the second period.
The third period saw Kavanagh feed the puck to Jarusek for the Spirit's sixth goal of the game, at the 5:22 mark. Jarusek notched his hat trick later in the final seconds, at 19:52 in the period thanks to assists from defenseman Cody Sol and Szwarz.
Saginaw goaltender Edward Pasquale finished with 22 saves and Sting goalie Shayne Campbell posted 29 saves.
