Pelech Propels Majors to OT Win Over Erie

Erie, PA - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors finished off a home-and-home series with the Erie Otters tonight, and concluded the contest with a 4-3 overtime victory on the road. Mississauga's Mike Pelech collected a goal and three assists for four points in the win. As a result, the Majors record shifts to 10-13-0-1 on the year.

The action was quick to start in the 1st period as Erie's Zack Torquato and Greg McKegg each wired a shot into the Majors net at 3:05 and at 5:47, respectively, to put the home team up 2-0. The assists had gone to Edgar Rybakov, Justin Hodgman and Luke Gazdic. However, Mississauga's Cameron Gaunce answered back with his goal coming at 17:01 (power-play), with help from Pelech and Jesse Messier, to cut the lead in half.

Devante Smith-Pelly got the only goal in the 2nd period at 14:46, off of passes from Pelech and Dustin Ekelman, to knot the contest for the Majors.

Then, Torquato opened up the 3rd period with his goal coming 2:07 into the frame with help from Hodgman and David Shields to move the Otters ahead 3-2. Messier tied it up once more for the Majors at 15:38 to send the game into overtime. The lone assist had gone to Pelech.

With only 43 seconds into the extra period, Pelech put the puck into Erie's net off of a lone pass from Gaunce to secure the victory for Mississauga.

Chris Carrozzi got the start in net for the Majors and turned aside 23 shots, while Jaroslav Janus made 17 saves for the Otters. Mississauga went 1 for 4 on the power-play, while Erie finished 0 for 4 on the night. The game's three stars were Messier (1st), Brian Shaw (2nd) and Hodgman (3rd).

Mississauga is back on the road tomorrow evening, as they visit the Oshawa Generals at 6:05 p.m. All Majors road games are available via webcast at www.stmichaelsmajors.com.
