Houston Aeros News Release
SAINT PAUL, MN - Minnesota Wild President and General Manager Doug Risebrough today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has reassigned goaltender Nolan Schaefer to the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League (AHL). Schaefer was recalled Tuesday on an emergency basis and did not play a game with the Wild.
Schaefer, 28 (1/15/80), is 5-5-0 with a 2.36 GAA and a .908 Sv. Pct. in 10 games with the Aeros this season. The 6-foot-2, 207-pound native of Yellow Grass, Sask., led the AHL in GAA in 2007-08 (2.06), ranked fourth in Sv. Pct. (.924) and tied for second in shutouts (six). He represented Canada in the 2008 AHL All-Star Game and was awarded the Harry "Hap" Holmes Award with fellow goaltender Barry Brust for having the fewest goals against in the AHL. Schaefer appeared in seven NHL games for San Jose in 2005-06, posting a 5-1 record with a 1.88 GAA, .920 SV% and one shutout en route to becoming first goalie in Sharks history to open a career on a five-game winning streak. Schaefer was signed by the Wild as a free agent on July 3, 2007. He was San Jose's fifth-round pick (No. 166 overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
The Houston Aeros play this Saturday at 7:35 p.m. against the Worcester Sharks. Saturday is the first of the Aeros' Legends Bobblehead series where the first 3,000 fans through Toyota Center doors will receive the rink base and the first of six bobbleheads. Houston Aeros Charities is also currently holding their Food Drive where fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to this weekend's games. The 5th Annual Military Appreciation night is also this Saturday.
