Campbell and McIlveen Among Four Signed by Rays

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach Jared Bednar announced today that forwards Trent Campbell, Paul McIlveen, Jeff MacDermid and Jeff Rainville have signed for the upcoming 2008-09 season. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed. All four will be participating in the Stingrays' training camp, which opens today.

Second-year pro Campbell, 25, returns after leading all Stingrays players last season with a +26 plus/minus rating. The Beauval, Saskatchewan, native began the 2007-08 campaign in France before signing with South Carolina in November. In 57 games with the Rays, the 5-foot-10, 175-pound forward collected 49 points (22g, 27a) to place fifth on the team. During the playoffs the Lake Superior State alum added 14 points and participated in all 20 contests. Campbell, who was named the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for Mar. 31-Apr. 6, recently participated in training camp for the AHL's Manitoba Moose prior to arriving in North Charleston.

McIlveen, 22, also returns for his second professional campaign following a 34-point (11g, 23a) output in 2007-08. In addition to his 57 regular season games, he participated in 14 playoff contests, notching three goals for the Stingrays. Prior to turning pro, the Waterloo, Ontario, native spent two seasons with the QMJHL's Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, compiling 128 points (52g, 76a) and 116 penalty minutes in 116 contests. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound forward also saw action with the OHL's Ottawa 67's during the 2004-05 season, going pointless in 10 games played.

MacDermid, 24, is entering his first professional season following four years with the University of Prince Edward Island. As a member of the Panthers, the 5-foot-10, 180-pound forward compiled 25 goals and 31 assists for 56 points in 98 games. The Sauble Beach, Ontario, native previously spent all or parts of three seasons with the OHL's Owen Sound Attack, accumulating 28 points (10g, 18a) and 81 penalty minutes in 129 contests. During the 2003-04 season, MacDermid finished third in the OHL Coaches Poll in the Best Defensive Forward category.

Rainville, 24, is embarking on his second pro campaign and first in North America. Last season the Blind River, Ontario, native finished third on Villard-de-Lans (France) with 19 points (10g, 9a) in 25 games. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound forward previously spent four years at Lake Superior State University, amassing 60 points (25g, 35a) in 139 collegiate contests. He led the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) with 110 points (56g, 54a) in 2002-03, playing for the Soo Junior Greyhounds. During his four seasons as a Laker, and again last season in France, Rainville played alongside current Stingray Trent Campbell.
