Alaska Aces News Release

The Alaska Aces recently helped kick-off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a special ceremony held in conjunction with the Municipality of Anchorage at Anchorage's Loussac Library. In an effort to raise awareness about the importance of early detection of breast cancer, the library's fountain will glow pink for the month of October.

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Aces will also "Paint the Rink Pink" on October 8 and 9 in a pair of pre-season games against South Carolina, scheduled for 7:15 p.m. at the Sullivan Arena.

According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women, excluding skin cancers. It is estimated that about 178,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer were diagnosed in U.S. women last year. In Alaska, more than 300 women are diagnosed with breast cancer annually, and approximately 60 Alaskans die of breast cancer each year.

When you purchase a ticket to one of the Aces' pre-season games, a portion of the proceeds will go to both the American Cancer Society and Breast Cancer Focus, Inc. All proceeds will remain in Alaska. For the second straight year, GCI, Providence Alaska Medical Centers, the Anchorage Daily News, American Lung Association, Anchorage Media Group, and Alaska Regional Hospital will partner with the Aces in an effort to surpass last year's fundraising total of $105,000. Help make a difference in our community by showing your support in the fight against cancer.

Tickets for the pre-season, cancer awareness games are now on sale. Tickets are $14 (plus fees) at the Sullivan Arena. Or purchase tickets to both games at the Aces office and receive a discount! Groups of 15 or more are also eligible for a discounted rate of $10 per ticket. Call 258-ACES for more information.
