Indiana Fever partners with Habitat to build two homes

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - On Tuesday, August 26th, the Indiana Fever will join Habitat for Humanity of Greater Indianapolis on a pair of "Let's Build Our Community Together" home builds. Eleven Fever players including Indianapolis native and two-time WNBA All-Star Katie Douglas will be present for the build. The combined group will build two mini barns for the homes. This is the third year that the Fever has partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Indianapolis.
The homes that began August 6th will end with dedication celebrations on September 19th where the homeowners will receive keys to their new homes. These homes are sponsored by Community Health Network, Lowe's, National City, Citizens Gas and the Indiana Housing and Community Development Association (IHCDA). Honoring the IHCDA and its 30th anniversary, its contributions include 30 consecutive hours of volunteer efforts at the building sites - 2119 and 2129 N. Bolton Ave., on land donated by Community Health Network.
The Fever, 12-14 at the WNBA's Olympic Break, resumes its schedule with a pair of home games at Conseco Fieldhouse - Thursday, Sept. 28 against the Connecticut Sun (7:00 p.m.) and Saturday, Sept. 30 against the Atlanta Dream (7:00 p.m.) Led by WNBA All-Stars Tamika Catchings, Douglas and Tammy Sutton-Brown, the Fever bids for its first WNBA Finals appearance after reaching the Eastern Conference Finals in two of the past three seasons. Habitat for Humanity of Greater Indianapolis is committed to eliminating poverty housing and making home ownership available to very low-income families, most of whom have children and live in unsafe, overcrowded or substandard conditions.
Each qualified low-income family must meet Habitat's income and credit history criteria, as well as agree to invest 250 hours in budget education classes and assist with the building of their own home. Each family must also make monthly mortgage payments with a no-interest loan. Through cooperative partnerships with volunteers, churches, corporations, foundations and builders, Habitat is able to make the dream of homeownership a reality.
