Charlotte Knights News Release
FORT MILL, S.C. - August 25, 2008 - The Knights got a solid pitching performance from starter Charlie Haeger, but it wasn't enough to hold off the Norfolk Tides. The two teams played into the 8th inning before the game was called due to rain as the Knights fall to the Tides 4-1.
Haeger's knuckleball was effective early as he went four and two thirds of an inning without allowing a hit. As the light rain over Knights Stadium increased, it became harder for Haeger to grip his knuckleball. The Tides were able to get two runs in the top of the fifth to take an early 2-0 lead.
The Knights only bright spot offensively was a solo home run from Designated Hitter Royce Huffman. He now has 10 home runs on the year.
Norfolk starting pitcher Craig Anderson earned the win to improve to 6-8 on the season. Haeger takes the loss to move to 9-13.
Prior to the game, the Chicago White Sox activated third baseman Joe Crede from his rehab assignment with Charlotte. Pitcher Lance Broadway was also recalled by Chicago. Infielder Chris Getz was optioned to Charlotte from Chicago and pitcher Jason Rice was transferred from Kannapolis to Charlotte.
Knight's starter RHP Charlie Haeger pitched a no-hitter throughout four innings. Haeger's record goes to 9-13.
The Knights continue their series with the Tides Tuesday. Tomo Ohka (5-11, 4.01) will take the mound for Charlotte. Ryan Bukvich (8-3, 4.20 ERA) will get the start for the Tides. Game time is 7:15 p.m.
The Charlotte Knights are the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. For ticket or event information, please contact the Knights front office at (704) 357-8071 or (803) 548-8050 or visit our website at www.charlotteknights.com for more information.
