
Patriots Destroy Revolution 17-6

YORK, PA- The Somerset Patriots defeated the York Revolution 17-6 in front of 4,210 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Thursday evening.
Somerset struck first with a run in the top of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead when third baseman Brandon Larson crushed a two out solo home run (18) to left center.
York tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the bottom of the first inning when first baseman Chris Ashby hit a two out solo home run (9) to left center.
The Revolution plated three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 4-1 lead. Designated hitter Matt Dryer led off with a single to center and advanced to third when third baseman Shea Hillenbrand followed with a double down the third base line. Leftfielder Matt Esquivel then hit a bloop RBI single to right that scored Dryer and catcher Luis Taveras followed with a RBI single to left that plated Hillenbrand. Second baseman Jose Enrique Cruz scored Esquivel with a sacrifice fly to right.
The Patriots rallied for four runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 5-4 lead. Somerset loaded the bases on a single to center by first baseman Josh Pressley, a single to right by leftfielder Matt Hagen, and a two out walk by designated hitter Vito Chiaravalloti. Shortstop Gera Alvarez then ripped a two run single to left that scored Pressley and Hagen. Centerfielder Sean Smith followed by lining a two run single to center that plated Chiaravalloti and Alvarez.
York tied the game at 5-5 with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Cruz reached on a fielder's choice to third, stole second, and came around to score on a one out RBI single to center by centerfielder Kennard Jones.
Somerset broke the game open with a ten batter; six run top of the fifth inning that gave the Patriots a 11-5 lead. Larson lined a double off the left field wall and came around to score when Pressley followed with a RBI double down the right field line. Hagen then stroked a double into the left field corner that plated Pressley and second baseman David Housel lined a one out double into right center field that scored Hagen . After a two out walk to Alvarez, Smith crushed a three run home run (9) to left center.
The Revolution scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to make it 11-6 when Ashby hit a lead off solo home run (10) to left, his second of the game.
The Patriots added a run in the top of the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly to right by Alvarez to extend their lead to 12-6 when they loaded the bases on a hit batter and two walks.
Somerset scored two more runs in the top of the eighth inning to make it 14-6. Pressley drew a one out walk and advanced to third on a double to left center by Hagen . Two straight wild pitches allowed both runners to score.
The Patriots plated their final three runs in the top of the ninth inning to make it 17-6. Somerset loaded the bases on a lead off walk by Smith, a single to left by Ayala and a single to left by Larson. Pressley drove in Smith with a RBI single to right and Hagen scored Ayala with a RBI single to center. Larson scored the final run when he scampered home on a one out RBI groundout by Housel.
Patriots' starter Brian Adams (7-5) picked up the win, allowing six runs, five earned, on eight hits while striking out three and walking none in five innings of work. Revolution starter Aaron Myette (6-7) suffered the loss, allowing nine runs on ten hits while walking three and striking out two in 4.1 innings pitched.
With the win the Patriots improved to 6-6 in the second half and 46-36 overall on 2008 season while the Revolution dropped to 6-7 and 36-47.
The 2008 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Tuesday, July 29th when the Patriots return to Commerce Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 pm game against the Lancaster Barnstormers.
