Carolina wins over Mississippi

Pearl, MS --- Andy Jenkins homered and drove in four runs to lead the Carolina Mudcats past the Mississippi Braves 7-1 at Trustmark Park on Saturday night.

Jenkins, also caught the victory, his second start of the season as the backstop. Jenkins homered in the second with a man aboard, then singled in two in the sixth as the Mudcats (15-14) built a 5-1 lead for starter Brett Sinkbeil (W, 4-8). Lee Mitchell chipped in a two-run double in the sixth to seal up Carolina's third win in four nights at Trustmark.

With the victory, Carolina moved to within two games of the two-team tandem leading the North: Huntsville and Tennessee.

Sinkbeil pitched five innings of three-hit ball, allowing just one unearned run in the fourth to earn the victory, his first since June 17th.

Gaby Sanchez, Manuel Mayorson and Jenkins each had three hits in the victory.

Jeff Gogal, Jacob Marceaux and Todd Doolittle combined to throw the final four innings.

Carolina's road trip to Mississippi concludes on Sunday night at 8:05 PM ET with Aaron Thompson (0-3, 4.97) making his first start since mid-June against Duente Heath (1-4, 6.66).
