BayBears Backed Down by Lookouts to Even Series

MOBILE, Ala. - After battling in three straight one-run contests, the BayBears were slammed at Hank Aaron Stadium on Saturday as they fell to the Chattanooga Lookouts 10-4.

A six-run ninth inning sunk the BayBears (41-57, 12-16) as Chattanooga (50-49, 13-16) pulled away with a Sean Henry two-run homer and run-scoring singles by Tonys Gutierrez, Eric Eymann and Drew Stubbs.

Cesar Valdez (0-2) started for the BayBears and was effective through the first five frames while allowing just one run, but in the sixth, he was touched up for three more. Chris Valaika smacked a two-run double while Stubbs singled home Valaika to make it 4-0 Lookouts.

Brandon Burgess singled in Gerardo Parra for the first BayBear tally in the bottom of the sixth while Javier Brito jacked a pinch-hit homer to draw the BayBears within 4-2 in the seventh. Yunesky Sanchez then singled home two in the bottom of the ninth against reliever Derrik Lutz to finish the scoring. Starting pitcher Jordan Smith (2-4) worked six for the Lookouts while limiting the BayBears to just a run on five hits.

On Sunday, the BayBears will close out the five-game series with Chattanooga by sending All-Star right-hander Brooks Brown (5-10, 3.74) to the mound at 4:05.
