Home Runs Carry Keys Past Winston-Salem

FREDERICK, MD - The Frederick Keys utilized a set of two-run home runs to carry them past the Winston-Salem Warthogs by an 8-4 score on Thursday afternoon at Harry Grove Stadium. Brandon Tripp, Brandon Snyder and Mike Pierce each collected two-run homers as the Keys evened the three-game series at a game apiece with the finale sscheduled for Friday night.

For the second consecutive game, Frederick jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the first inning. Warthogs starting pitcher Michael Dubee walked Zach Dillon with two outs. After an error on a pickoff attempt advanced Dillon to second, Brandon Snyder followed with an RBI single. Next, Brandon Tripp lifted a two-run home run over the left field wall to give the Keys a 3-0 lead.

Frederick doubled their lead in the third inning when Snyder smacked a two-run blast off Dubee and Billy Rowell lined an RBI single that scored Tripp to extend the Keys advantage to 6-0.

Winston-Salem charged back with four runs off Brandon Erbe in the fourth inning. John Shelby III belted a two-run home run to put the Warthogs on the board. Next up, Salvador Sanchez singled and scored on an RBI double by Estee Harris to cut the Keys lead in half. A Greg Paiml single would bring Harris across the plate and trim Frederick's lead to 6-4.

The Keys put the game away in the eighth inning when Mike Pierce blasted a two-run home run of Warthogs reliever Henry Mabee to give Frederick an 8-4 lead. Keys reliever Ryan Ouellette (3-6) was credited with the win after working two scoreless innings of relief and limiting Winston-Salem to a hit.

Dubee (3-6) suffered his worst start of the season in taking the loss for the Warthogs. He only lasted 2 1/3 innings and surrendered six runs on seven hits. Erbe started strong by retiring the first 10 batters he faced, but allowed four runs in the fourth inning and was pulled from the game without figuring in the decision.

These two teams will conclude their three-game series on Friday night at Harry Grove Stadium. Winston-Salem will start RHP Matt Long (3-8, 5.35), while Frederick will turn to RHP Pedro Beato (3-3, 4.14). The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
