Frederick Keys News Release
After suffering one of the toughest losses of the season, the Frederick Keys bounced back this afternoon at Harry Grove Stadium to defeat the Winston-Salem Warthogs 8-4.
The Keys had starter Brandon Erbe on the hill. He retired the first ten batters he faced. Erbe also got a lot of early run support. In the first, with two men out, Zach Dillon worked a walk. He got to second when a pick off throw from Michael Dubee got away from the first baseman Brandon Allen. Brandon Snyder drove him in on an RBI-single to give the Keys the early lead.
The next batter, Brandon Tripp, drilled an opposite field two-run homer, his eleventh of the season, to extend Frederick's lead to three.
In the bottom of the third, the Keys struck again. Fresh off the disabeld list, Miguel Abreu led off the inning with a double. One batter later, Snyder blasted a two-run homer to right to give the Keys a 5-0 lead. They weren't done. Tripp doubled. Billy Rowell drove him in on an RBI single to make it 6-0 Frederick.
Dubee was pulled after the Rowell base knock. He lasted just 2.1 innings, and allowed six runs on seven hits.
Winston-Salem mounted a come back in the fourth. With one on and two out, John Shelby hit a two-run homer to pull the Warthogs to within four. The next batter, Salvador Sanchez, extended the inning with an infield single. Estee Harris knocked him in with a double, making the score 6-3. Greg Paiml then drove in Harris with a single to make it 6-4.
Erbe left the game after the fourth. He was spectacular through 3.2 innings, but struggled mightily to get the final out of the fourth. The Keys bullpen then shut down the Warthogs. Jeff Moore and Ryan Ouellette combined for four scoreless innings. The Keys tacked on a couple of insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth, when Mike Pierce hit a two-run homer to make it 8-4. Although it wasn't a save situation, Chad Thall closed it out by pitching a perfect ninth.
Ouellette was credited with the win, improving his record to 3-6. Dubee got the loss. His record is also now 3-6.
The rubber game of this series will be tomorrow evening at Harry Grove Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00. There will be fireworks following the game. For ticket information contact our box office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
