ALTOONA - Right-hander Luis Munoz made his 2008 debut with the Curve and tossed seven solid innings to power Altoona past the Bowie Baysox, 2-1 on Friday night at Blair County Ballpark.

In front of an electric crowd of 7,059, Munoz (1-0) allowed just one run over seven innings to keep Bowie at bay and help the Curve snap a three-game losing skid.

Munoz allowed an early solo home run to Lou Montanez, which gave Bowie a 1-0 lead.

Altoona would quickly answer the challenge in their half of the first. Shelby Ford, who finished the night 2-for-4, scored on an errant throw from Baysox shortstop Blake Davis to knot the score, 1-1.

Munoz and Bowie right-hander Brad Bergesen (7-2) were locked in a pitcher's duel until the Curve took the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Jason Delaney's RBI double proved to be the deciding run. His shot down the right field line brought home Jonel Pacheco to give Altoona a 2-1 lead.

That's all as Munoz would need, as the Curve right-hander punched out six batters and scattered four hits on Friday.

Josh Shortslef relieved Munoz after the seven innings and tossed scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth to earn his second save of the year.

Bergesen (7-2), tied for second in the Eastern League with seven wins entering Friday's contest dropped his second decision of the season. Both of Bergesen's losses have come against the Curve this season.

The Curve and Baysox return to action on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Altoona right-hander Derek Hankins (1-3, 4.02) will look for his second win of the season while Bowie counters with righty David Hernandez (5-1, 3.07).

The first 2,000 fans through the gates on Saturday will take home a complimentary 10th Anniversary Curve Autograph Book, compliments of The Galliker Dairy Company. Former Curve left-hander Mike Johnston will also be on hand to meet with fans and sign autographs as the Curve salute their 2003 team. Following Saturday's game, kids can run the bases courtesy of Thomas Chevrolet of Bedford.

Tickets still remain and can be obtained over the phone by calling 877-99-CURVE, online at AltoonaCurve.com or in person at the BCB box office.
