Peoria Chiefs News Release

PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs have announced that left-handed pitcher Dustin Sasser has been promoted to High-A Daytona. The organization has yet to determine who will join the team to fill out the roster, which currently stands at 24 players.

Sasser made 20 appearances with the Chiefs this season, posting a 1.53 ERA with a 1-4 record. He is second on the team in saves with four, and in his 35 1/3 innings pitched he struck out 24 batters. His win came on May 21 against Quad Cities when he pitched two innings, allowing two hits and no runs while striking out a season-high three.

In 2007, the southpaw spent the season with short-season Boise where he appeared and started in 14 games with the Hawks. He was 3-4 with a 4.59 ERA after being selected by the Cubs in the 21st round of last year's draft out of East Carolina University. Following the 2004 season with the Pirates, he underwent Tommy John surgery, ending his chance of playing college ball in 2005. Upon his return in 2006, he worked his way into the rotation and went 5-7 with a 4.55 ERA.

The Chiefs will take on the Beloit Snappers on Friday night at 6:30 pm in the second game of the four-game series.
