Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, Ohio-Brandon Menchaca drilled a two-run home run and four Dayton pitchers combined to allow just five hits as the Dragons defeated the Great Lakes Loons 4-2 on Friday night at Fifth Third Field. The win improved the Dragons to 2-0 to start the second half in Midwest League play.

Menchaca, who joined the club on Thursday from extended spring training, launched a homer after a Justin Reed bunt single in the third inning to tie the game at 2-2.

The Dragons took the lead in the fourth when Anthony Gressick reached on a two-base throwing error by Loons' third baseman Brian Mathews, went to third on Angel Cabrera's single to left, and scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-2.

Dayton closed out the scoring in the seventh on a lead-off triple by Reed and a one-out run-scoring single by Logan Parker to make it 4-2.

Dragons starting pitcher Josh Ravin (2-3) went the first five innings to earn the win. He allowed three hits and two runs with no walks and three strikeouts.

Zach Stewart, the Cincinnati Reds third round selection in the recent draft, made his professional debut and was highly impressive, working two perfect innings.

Tyler Rhoden recorded the first two outs in the eighth inning before allowing a walk and being lifted in favor of Joseph Krebs. Krebs allowed a base hit to the first man he faced to put the tying run on base, but worked out of trouble and then tossed a scoreless ninth for his sixth save.

The Dragons finished with eight hits including two apiece by Parker and Reed.

The Dragons host the Loons against Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Luis Montano (6-5, 5.02) will start for Dayton. The came will be televised on Time Warner Digital Cable Channel 99 and can be heard on radio on WING AM 1410.
