Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, IL - Greg Dowling and Corey Brown each hit a first-inning two-run home run to get the Kane County Cougars' offense in gear Friday night, but that was all the team turned out to muster in an 8-4 loss against the Beloit Snappers in front of 5,085 at Elfstrom Stadium. The Cougars have lost three consecutive games and now lead Beloit by just 2.5 games for the Western Division's wildcard playoff spot.
After starter Scott Deal gave up a run in the top of the first, Dowling went deep to right with Adam Klein on base to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead, and later Brown launched one to straightaway center with Justin Frash aboard for a 4-1 game.
The Cougars notched five more hits and drew four walks throughout the rest of the game but couldn't score, and the Snappers battled back. They notched one in the second, two in the fourth and three in the fifth to make it 7-4 and chase Deal (3-2), who allowed seven runs on eight hits in four-plus innings in the loss. Chad Kerfoot yielded one run in his 2 2/3 innings of relief, and Lance Sewell was perfect in his 2 1/3-inning stint.
The Cougars (35-25) and Snappers (33-28) play Game 3 of their series Saturday night at 6 CT. Scott Hodsdon (3-4, 4.38) will face Santo Arias (2-2, 2.59).
