Springfield Cardinals News Release

The St. Louis Cardinals have announced that rehabbing pitcher Matt Clement will start for the Springfield Cardinals this Sunday at Hammons Field.

The former All-Star is in his first year as a Cardinal, but has not yet appeared in a major league game for St. Louis.

After opening the year on the disabled list after missing all of 2007 with a shoulder injury, Clement started this past Tuesday for the Palm Beach Cardinals of the Florida State League. The right-hander allowed just one hit over six scoreless innings, in picking up a win over Daytona. Clement threw 73 pitches over his six innings, striking out five men without issuing a walk.

Clement will be the second major league pitcher to rehab for Springfield this year, following Mark Mulder, who appeared in two games for the Cards earlier this season.

Clement and the Cardinals take on the Arkansas Travelers in the opening game of Springfield's eight-game home stand, this coming Sunday at Hammons Field. Sunday will be a great day for the entire family, as kids will enjoy Hiland Dairy Ice Cream Treats as part of Hiland Dairy Ice Cream Sunday. Kids will also "Run the Bases" after the game, thanks to the Killian Group of Companies. Game time on Sunday is 6:10pm and gates to Hammons Field will open at 5:10pm. Tickets are available by calling (417) 863-2143 or online at www.springfieldcardinals.com.

Also on the upcoming home stand, fans will enjoy a Fireworks Extravaganza thanks to AM Pyrotechnics, a Cox Health Cardinals Cap Giveaway a Father's Day "Catch with Dad" experience and many other great promotions.
