Myrtle Beach Pelicans (22-13) vs. Wilmington Blue Rocks (15-19)

Sunday, May 11 -- 1:35 PM

Frawley Stadium -- Wilmington, DE

Game #36, Road Game #21

TODAY'S GAME AT A GLANCE: With their 4-3 win in last night's game two of this three-game set, the Pelicans claimed their eighth consecutive series victory, a stretch dating back to a series loss to the Winston-Salem Warthogs at BB&T Coastal Field 4/14-4/16. Today the birds will have the chance for their first series sweep of the season as they close out their second series of the season in Wilmington. The Pelicans have been swept once, dropping all three games in Potomac (4/8-4/10).

TODAY'S STARTING PITCHERS: With Tommy Hanson's promotion to Mississippi, the Pelicans will fill the vacancy in the rotation with right-hander Chris Vines, who has been extremely effective in a piggybacking and relief role thus far this year. Vines will matchup with right-hander Jason Godin for Wilmington.

Vines: Will make his first start of the season after building back arm strength in a piggybacking and relief role thus far this season. Vines has been extremely effective thus far this season, posting a1-0 record and ERA of 0.53 in six relief appearances. In his last outing, Vines showed that he was ready to start, turning in a season-high four innings of scoreless relief against the Salem Avalanche, allowing just one hit. Vines missed a week of the season, recovering from a mild Groin strain from April 10th-April 17th.

A native of Birmingham, AL, Vines was selected in the fifth round of the 2003 draft, by the Braves out of high school. He has been predominantly a starter in his professional career, making 51-of-60 appearances prior to 2008 in a starting role. He had Tommy John Surgery following the 2006 season, returning the mound late in the 2007 season with Rome (A). For more on Vines, see Bullpen Notes.

Godin: Will be making his seventh start of the season today, and his fourth at Frawley Stadium. Won his last time out at home against the Salem Avalanche. The righty posted six strong innings, permitting three earned runs on six hits. The six innings were a season-high for the 23-year old.

Originally from Anchorage, AK, Godin attended Old Dominion University and currently makes his home in Stafford, VA. 2008 marks his third professional season after splitting the season in 2007 between Burlington (A) and Wilmington (A).

ROAD WARRIORS: The Pelicans are no longer the only team in the CL with a winning record on the road as Frederick has pulled over .500 with a mark of 11-9. However, the birds have compiled a 13-7 mark thus far, which is tops in the league. The Pelicans went 5-2 during their last road trip to Lynchburg and Salem and have won their first two games on this trip.

TOODLES TO TOMMY: During their game two win last night, the Pelicans learned that their ace, right-hander Tommy Hanson, has been promoted to Mississippi (AA). The 22-year old will leave a large void, having posted a 3-1 record in seven starts with an ERA of 0.90 (2nd - CL). At the time of his promotion, the two-time Carolina League Pitcher of the Week had 49 strikeouts, also second in the league. He is scheduled to start Tuesday against the Montgomery Biscuits for the M-Braves.

AT THE QUARTER POLE: With their win last night, Myrtle Beach officially reached the quarter-mark of the 2008 season. The Pelicans currently lead the Southern Division by a full six games. Last year at the quarter-mark, Myrtle Beach held a record of 16-19 and were a full five games behind eventual first half Southern Division Champion Kinston (21-14).
