
Rock Cats Scratch Baysox Again

(New Britain, CT) - The Baysox scored the first three runs of the game, but they couldn't muster any more offense and fell to the Rock Cats 5-3. Kam Mickolio was charged with the loss, his first of the season, after allowing a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh.
The Baysox scored all three of their runs in the top of the third inning. Lou Montanez led off with a double to left and Jeff Nettles drew a walk. After a Nolan Reimold strikeout, Jonathan Tucker hit a double to center to drive in both Montanez and Nettles. Rock Cats catcher Drew Butera attemted to pick Tucker off from second base, but he threw the ball away and Tucker advanced to third. Tucker would score on a two-out fielding error by Luke Hughes.
The Rock Cats got two of the runs back in the bottom of the third. Drew Butera led off with a walk and Luke Hughes singled to left. Dustin Martin flew out to center field and both runners advanced a base. With runners on second and third with one out, Brock Peterson grounded out to short to score Butera. Matt Moses followed the groundout with an RBI single to center to cut the lead to 3-2, and Drew Butera tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth.
Dustin Martin drew a walk off reliever Kam Mickolio to start the bottom of the seventh. Brock Peterson hit a groundball back to the mound, and Mickolio threw to second to retire Martin. With Peterson on first, Matt Moses hit an RBI double to left and went to third when Lou Montanez threw home to try to retire Peterson at the plate. Moses would score on a wild pitch by Mickolio.
Brad Bergesen made his third start for the Baysox, allowing three runs in five innings off five hits and three walks while striking out two. Kam Mickolio would relieve him in the sixth inning, allowing two runs off one hit and three walks. Gerrardo Casadiego pitched a scoreless eighth.
With the loss, the Baysox fall to 17-15 and remain 3.5 games behind Harrisburg in the Southern Division. The Baysox and the Rock Cats will play again Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. in the third of a four game series. RHP David Hernandez (2-0, 2.30) is scheduled to pitch for the Baysox, he will go up against RHP Anthony Swarzak (2-0, 3.30 ERA).
