York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution dropped a tough one on Opening Night to the Camden Riversharks, losing 11-4 in front of 6,994 fans at Campbell's Field in Camden, NJ. It is the second straight year that the Revs have lost their opening game, surrendering leads in both Opening Night losses.
York went on top early, as Matt Dryer led off the top of the second with an infield single, Jason Aspito doubled to right-center, and with runners at second and third, Kenny Perez grounded a fielder's choice to short, driving in Dryer to make it a 1-0 game. The Revs plated another run in the top of the third on Matt Padgett's RBI single to right, scoring Keoni De Renne who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning.
Aaron Myette faced the minimum through 2.1 innings, but allowed a run in the bottom of the third as Gary Cates crossed home on a wild pitch. L.J. Biernbaum then put Camden on top to stay in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run homer that just cleared the wall in right-center, making it a 3-2 Riversharks lead.
Mike Vento added a sacrifice fly in the fifth, and Brett Bonvechio slammed a two-run homer to right, giving the Sharks a 6-2 advantage.
Camden added four more in the seventh, highlighted by five straight walks (three with the bases loaded), and another run in the eighth, as they scored 11 straight runs to balloon their lead to 11-2.
Travis Ezi's second double of the game drove in two in the ninth to provide the final margin.
Tony Peguero (1-0) picked up the win for Camden with two scoreless innings in relief. Myette (0-1) suffered the loss for York.
The Revs will look to get even in the series Saturday evening at 5:05 p.m. RHP Corey Thurman makes his first start for York, opposed by RHP Chris Young. Fans in York can catch all of the action live on NEWSRADIO 910 WSBA or online at yorkrevolution.com beginning at 4:05 p.m.
