Lugnuts Drop Whitecaps, 7-4

LANSING- The Lansing Lugnuts ran their home winning streak to 12 games with a 7-4 win over the West Michigan Whitecaps before 6,102 fans at Oldsmobile Park Saturday night. Lansing has also won 9-of-10 overall.
The Lugnuts jumped out early as jonathan Diaz and Chris Emanuele led the game off with back-to-back doubles give Lansing a 1-0 lead. Matt liuzza and Brian Pettway each drew walks later in the frame to load the bases for Paul Franko, who ripped a bases clearing double down the right field line to make it 4-0 lead for Lansing.
West Michigan fought back in the second when Ryan Strieby smacked a solo homer to cut the lead to 4-1. The Whitecaps added another run in the inning when Michael Bertram doubled and scored on an Audy Ciriaco single to pull within 4-2.
The Whitecaps put another run on the board in the third to make it a one run game. James Skelton drew a leadoff walk and later scored on a Strieby single.
The score would stay at 4-3 until the seventh when the Lugnuts were able to plate two runs to pull away. After Sean Shoffit singled, Franko doubled into the left field corner to bring home the runner and make it 5-3. He would later score on a wild pitch to push the lead to 6-3.
The two teams traded runs in the eighth before Zach Dials was able to close out the game in the ninth for his second save.
Chris Reddout (9-1) earned the win for Lansing by throwing three innings of scoreless relief and allowing just three hits.
Charles Furbush (4-1) took his first loss of the season after being tapped for four runs in five frames.
Lansing (76-61, 41-27) and West Michigan (83-55, 46-22) will continue the series on Sunday afternoon. It will be a Meijer Kids Day with pepsi Kids Run the Bases following the game. First pitch is set for 2:05 p.m.
