
Parker returns, leads \'Hawks to fifth straight win

LOVES PARK, Ill. - All-star Shaun Parker returned from the disabled list to pitch six shutout innings on Saturday and beat Southern Illinois, 4-1.
Parker and four relievers combined on a four-hitter, in front of 3,025 at Road Ranger Stadium. The RiverHawks earned their fifth straight win and handed the Miners their fourth loss in a row.
Rockford remained 2 ½ games behind wild-card leader Kalamazoo, a 7-6 winner at Florence. The Miners were mathematically eliminated from the Frontier League West division title with the loss, combined with West-leading Gateway's 3-2 win.
The RiverHawks took an early 2-0 lead on sacrifice flies by Matt Sauls in the first inning and Jono Brooks in the second. Brian Blomquist (3-8) gave up two runs on six hits over six innings and took the loss.
Parker (6-1) gave up one hit, struck out five and walked five in his first appearance since June 27.
The Miners rallied for a run in the eighth inning on Mike Victor's RBI groundout. In the bottom of the inning, the RiverHawks picked up insurance runs on Matt Sauls' seventh home run and Andrew Sweet's RBI double.
The RiverHawks go for the sweep of the six-game homestand at 6:05 p.m. Sunday. Petco and Forest City Dog Training sponsor Dog Days of Summer. Water bowls, treats and pooper scoopers will be provided. A dog-training demonstration will be held on the field prior to the game. In addition, on Feldco Family Night, kids get to run the bases following the game. The Family Four Pack - four tickets, dogs and soft drinks - is available for $40. It's also Flood Relief Night. City Firefighters Union Local 413 will host a fundraiser. A truck will be in place to accept non-perishable food items and back-to-school supplies. Each person who donates will receive 50 percent off the price of their ticket. Citizens who make a monetary donation will be entered into a drawing to win: two round-trip tickets out of Rockford International Airport; four family four-packs and four tickets to CoCo Key Indoor Water Park; Road Ranger gas cards; gift packs from the RiverHawks and IceHogs; a car detailing package from Saturn of Rockford and a Congressional Cookbook from Congressman Don Manzullo. Feldco will donate $4500 worth of windows to flood victims. The RiverHawks donated tickets to flood victims through the fire department. They will be transported via bus to the game.
The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 15th season.
