Rascals Slip, Slide to Victory

O'Fallon, MO - The Slippery Rock Sliders didn't wait long to score runs on Saturday night as they scored three in the first three, but did have to wait a long time for the lightning and rain to stop, as they won 6-2 over River City.

With two outs and a 2-0 count on Rascals second baseman Jeff Landry. Home plate umpire Tony Maners said enough was enough, and on came the grounds crew.

Two hours and two minutes later, the skies finally cleared to the point play could resume.

With the Sliders leading 3-0, Jason Cline came in for Slippery Rock as starter John Bachman didn't last past the rain delay.

Cline was able to get out of the inning and work through the sixth allowing a Jeff Miller single in the sixth that scored the first Rascal run.

Taylor Fowler started for River City and did make it past the raid delay. Fowler allowed three runs, two earned, eight hits, three walks and three strikeouts, going six innings.

Trailing 3-1 in the eighth, River City used three pitchers as the Sliders scored three runs off just two hits. Jordan Thomson, Patrick Muldoon and Ryan Doherty combined to walk four in the inning and Slippery Rock was on top 6-1.

Miller came back up in the Rascal half of the eighth with the bases empty and connected to right for his third home run of the season, this one off Slider reliever Greg Lasinski.

Lasinski was able to pitch and scoreless ninth to earn his tenth save of the season.

Cline (1-1) got the win going 3.1 innings, one run, one earned, four hits, one walk and three strikeouts. Fowler (0-2) suffered the loss for River City.

All together with the rain delay, Four hours and fifty-seven minutes passed as the Sliders evened up the season series at one. The rubber game between Slippery Rock (23-57) and River City (33-48) is Sunday with the first pitch being an early one at 1:05 pm.
