River City Rascals News Release
O'Fallon, MO - Nick Tracy came in searching for just his second win of the season, and the 6'2 right hander got it going the deepest he's gone this season in a 9-2 Sliders victory over the River City Rascals Sunday afternoon.
Tracy's only trouble came in the eighth when he allowed a one out single by Jeff Landry followed by a Ryan Czyz two run shot to left.
"You wouldn't know it unless someone told you, but Slippery Rock came in here and they did not look like a last place team," Rascals manager Toby Rumfield said after the game. "They ran the bases, they executed perfectly and hit the ball around on us. They played well."
Chris Clem started for River City and ran into buzz saw in the top of the third. Kevin Holley led off and drove the ball into the Rascal bullpen for his third home run of the season to make it 1-0 Slippery Rock. The Sliders added two more runs on four singles as Anthony Albano and Bryan Vickers drove in runs.
The game would stay 3-0 all the way until the eight, despite all the Rascal opportunities. River City grounded into three inning ending double plays from the second through seventh innings as Tracy kept the shutout going.
"It seemed like every time we had runners on base we would hit a ground ball right at them and they would hit ground balls in the holes," Rumfield continued.
In the top of the eighth inning Slippery Rock added two runs on three hits. Robbie Hine picked up an RBI on a groundout and the other run scored on a misplay in center field by Czyz.
Leading 5-0, Tracy gave up the Czyz home run and was replaced by Jared Simon. Simon retired the next batter to end the Rascal eighth.
Clem worked into the ninth and got Holley to ground out to start the inning. Then four singles and four runs followed as Clem was replaced with one away by Patrick Muldoon. Albano drove in two more runs in the inning and finished going 3-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Jesse Acosta had a perfect 4-4 day at the plate with two runs as well.
Simon worked a perfect ninth inning to lock it down for the Sliders, as the visitors took two of three from River City. The Sliders out scored the Rascals 17-7 in the three games at T.R. Hughes Ballpark and left taking the last two of three.
Tracy (2-11) got the win going 7.1 innings, allowing two runs, both earned, six hits, four walks and three strikeouts. Clem (2-7) fell for the first time at home in 2007 going 8.1 innings, giving up nine runs, seven earned, 15 hits, one walk and six strikeouts.
River City (33-49) now travels to Washington to take on the Wild Things for three in the Rascals last three game road trip of the season. Chad Linder (2-2) will make his first professional start on Monday night at 6:05 pm at Consol Energy Park.
