Celebrate Jackie Robinson Day

The Brooklyn Cyclones will host "Jackie Robinson Day" from KeySpan Park in Coney Island on Sunday, August 12th both prior to and during the team's 5 PM game. With Jackie's wife, Rachel, and other members of the Jackie Robinson Foundation in attendance, the Cyclones will conduct a pre-game ceremony and honor the late baseball legend throughout the game.
In 1947, Robinson became the first African-American ever to play major league baseball, doing so for the Brooklyn Dodgers. His feat, as well as his lifelong advocacy efforts, opened the door for the diversification of baseball, the sports world and American culture.
One of three JRF Scholars who will be on hand is Genel Ambrose, a Brooklyn native, who recently graduated from NYU and is now working for HBO. Ambrose will be recognized in the pre-game ceremony and will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch just prior to the game.
The first 2,000 adults (21 and over) in attendance will receive models of Ebbets Field, the place in which Jackie achieved his legendary status.
