Taylor Turns Two, Legends Split Series

Eric Taylor yanked two home runs over the left-center field wall to pace the Legends in a 6-3 victory over Lake County at Applebee's Park on Tuesday night. The win earned the Legends a series split in their final game with the Captains this season. Five different Legends hitters collected two hits apiece on the way to the team's total of 11.
Taylor, who has been red-hot in July, got things started quickly for Lexington. One pitch after Nick Moresi was caught stealing, Taylor pulled Hector Rondon's offering over the wall to give the Legends a 1-0 lead.
Lake County was able to respond with a run in the fourth. Matt McBride doubled into the left-field corner to begin the inning, and later scored on Cirilo Cumberbatch's sacrifice fly to center field.
Lexington was able to take the lead for good in the next inning. Tyler Evans rapped a two-out single for his first hit since joining the Legends earlier this month. Moresi was hit on the hand with a Rondon (7-6) fastball, and Taylor walked. Tim Torres was able to deliver in the bases-loaded situation, lining a single to left. Jordan Parraz flew out to end the inning, but the home team had reclaimed a 2-1 advantage.
Starting pitcher Polin Trinidad went one more inning to secure the victory, retiring the last seven batters he faced. He struck out five and walked one in his six innings of work. Trinidad (5-7) gave way to Reid Kelly, who kept the outs flowing, pitching two perfect innings while striking out four.
Meanwhile, Taylor cranked his second longball of the evening (and fourth in three games) to provide Lexington's bullpen with some insurance. In July, Taylor is hitting .329 with six home runs and 20 RBI in 22 games. He has hits in 13 consecutive contests. His bomb made the score 4-1, and Luis Valdez would enter the game and allow another pair of runs to score in the eighth on a wild pitch and throwing error to give Lexington a commanding five-run lead.
Kyle DeYoung pitched an adventurous ninth in a non-save situation, as Beau Mills put a ball into the bleachers to close the score to three. However, that was as close as the Captains would get. DeYoung struck out Nick Weglarz and induced a grounder from Brian Juhl to end the game.
The Lakewood Blueclaws come to town for four starting tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Carlos Monasterios (9-6, 4.62) draws Bud Norris (0-4, 5.11) on a Chick-Fil-A Winning Wednesday.
