GreenJackets Two Big Innings Enough for Win

Augusta, GA - The GreenJackets (50-20, 19-13) snapped a two game skid against the Rome Braves (29-41, 15-16) on Monday night with an 11-6 win. Ryan Shaver recorded the win in relief and Ryan Rohlinger collected four RBIs as Augusta plated five runs in both the second and eighth innings.

Augusta snapped a 6-6 tie in the eighth inning plating five runs on five consecutive RBI hits for an 11-6 lead. Henry Gutierrez started the scoring with an RBI single to give Augusta a 7-6 lead. Tyler Graham followed with an RBI triple and then Marcus Sander s and Emmanuel Burriss had back-to-back RBI singles. Ryan Rohlinger capped off the scoring with an RBI a triple.

Shaver (2-4) worked 1.2 shutout innings, allowing one hit and walked one.

The Braves rallied back from a five run deficit scoring five times in the fifth inning off starter Adam Cowart to tie the game at 6-6. With the bases loaded and nobody out Larry Williams connected for an RBI single scoring the first run of the inning. Cowart was able to get the next batter to strike out for the first out of the inning but Jon Mark Owings followed with a grand-slam to left tying the game.

Cowart received the no-decision allowing six runs, five earned, on five hits in five innings of work. Cowart walked three and struck out four.

Mike Musgrave worked 2.1 scoreless innings in relief of Cowart and allowed just two hits while striking out two.

Augusta broke a 1-1 tie in the second inning plating five runs for a 6-1 lead. With runners on first and second and nobody out Tyler Graham connected for an RBI single to left field scoring Mike McBryde from second for a 2-1 lead. Three batters later, the GreenJackets had the bases loaded with one out and Ryan Rohlinger connected for a three-run double putting Augusta up 5-1. Bobby Felmy capped off the scoring with an RBI double.

The Braves took the early lead in the game when Phillip Britton scored on an RBI ground out for a 1-0 lead.

Augusta got the run back in the bottom half of the first on a two-out RBI double from Brett Pill.

The GreenJackets and Braves finish their four game series on Tuesday night with Augusta sending righty Kevin Pucetas (11-2, 1.59) to the hill looking for the split. Rome will counter with right-hander Jamie Richmond (5-4, 3.02). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

Game Notes:

Emmanuel Burriss collected three hits in the game finishing 3-for-5 with an RBI

Ryan Rohlinger was 2-for-5 with a run scored and four RBIs, the third time this year Rohlinger has collected four RBIs in a game.

The homer allowed by Cowart was the first allowed by the right-hander at the home park this season.

Brett Pill connected for his league leading 35th double of the season.
