
GreenJackets Rally for Eight Unanswered Runs

Augusta, GA - The GreenJackets (50-20, 20-13) earned a split of their four game series with the Rome Braves (29-41, 15-17) on Tuesday night winning 8-2. Starter Kevin Pucetas won his 12th game of the season and Augusta scored eight unanswered runs after falling behind 2-0 after three innings.
Pucetas (12-2) worked six innings, allowed five hits, two walks and four strikeouts to become the third pitcher in the SAL to 12 wins.
Augusta broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning when Henry Gutierrez connected for a two-out RBI double scoring Mike McBryde for a 3-2 lead. McBryde set up Gutierrez when he singled with two outs to keep the inning going.
Gutierrez finished a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs, a pair of doubles and a run scored.
Augusta added two more runs in the seventh inning on back-to-back RBI hits from Ryan Rohlinger and Bobby Felmy with one out in the inning for a 5-2 lead.
The GreenJackets got three more runs in the eighth inning to cap off the scoring at 8-2. Gutierrez connected for his second RBI double to start off the scoring then moved up two bases to score on a pair of wild pitches from reliever Brett Butts. Marcus Sanders made it 8-2 with an RBI double.
Juan Trinidad worked two perfect innings in relief of Pucetas recording one strikeout and Adam Ortiz pitched the ninth allowing a walk and striking out one to preserve the win.
James Richmond (5-5) suffered the loss allowing five runs on eight hits over 6.1 innings. Richmond did not walk a batter, struck out two and hit a batter.
Trailing 2-0 in the fourth Augusta plated two runs to tie the game at 2-2. After Matt Weston doubled to lead off the half inning McBryde followed with an RBI single to trim the lead in half. Three batters later Sanders brought home McBryde when Sanders reached first on a force out play at second base.
The Braves took a 2-0 lead getting single runs in the first and third innings on two-out RBI singled from Tyler Flowers and Jon Mark Owings.
The GreenJackets continue their home stand on Wednesday for the first game of a four game series with the Columbus Catfish. Augusta will send lefty Clayton Tanner (10-4, 2.91) to the hill in the first game of the series. The Catfish will counter with righty Heath Rollins (10-4, 2.71). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
Game Notes:
Augusta connected for five doubles in the game with Rohlinger and Gutierrez collecting two and Weston having one.
Gutierrez collected four hits in a game for the first time in his career.
The GreenJackets won the season series over the Braves 6-2.
