July 24, 2007 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

GREENSBORO, NC-Scott Cousins hit a two-out two- run homer off of Garet Hill in the bottom of the 7th to give Greensboro a 4-3 win over Lakewood on Tuesday afternoon.

The Grasshoppers (14-19) sweep four games from the BlueClaws (17-14) and have now won six games in a row, while Lakewood has lost seven of their last ten games. The four-game skid is a season-high for the BlueClaws, who out-hit Greensboro in three of the four games despite falling in each.

Hill (4-3) came in with a 3-2 lead but Cousins took him deep on a 3-2 pitch to give Greensboro the lead.

Don Czyz (2-5), who gave up a run to put Lakewood up 3-2, got the win and Blake Jones tallied his 17th save.

Lakewood had a 2-0 lead in the game, getting a run in the first when Julian Williams took home when Adrian Cardenas was thrown out stealing 2nd, and another in the 2nd on a ground out by Jay Miller.

Antonio Bastardo started for Lakewood and gave up a run in the 3rd on a Scott Cousins (3-4) RBI single, but then retired seven in a row until he labored through the 6th. Logan Morrison's SAC fly brought in the tying run but Bastardo worked through an inning in which he loaded the bases with nobody out.

Bastardo lasted six, giving up two runs on five hits before giving way to Hill in the 7th inning. This was the first time that Lakewood lost a game Bastardo started (8-1).

Lakewood took the lead with a Doug Morales 7th inning double, scoring Herman Demmink, who doubled to lead off the inning against reliever Czyz, but the lead didn't hold.

Demmink was 3-4 in the game while Morales finished 2-4.

Grasshoppers starter Michael Hyle went five and gave up two runs on eight hits.

Greensboro finishes the season 11-2 against Lakewood.

Lakewood now heads to Lexington to open a four- game series with the Legends on Wednesday night. Carlos Monasterios (9-6, 4.62), who threw a complete game in a 5-2 win over West Virginia on Friday, pitches the opener for Lakewood.
