Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release

June 13, 2007 - Matt Sweeney's three run home run proved to be the winning margin as the Cedar Rapids Kernels took game one of a doubleheader from the Beloit Snappers, 3-1, on Wednesday night at Pohlman Field in Beloit.

The Kernels trailed going into the fourth, 1-0, as Chris Pettit singled and moved to third on Mark Trumbo's double. Sweeney chased them all home with his sixth home run of the season.

The margin proved to be enough for Kernels starter Tim Schoeninger, (9-2) who allowed a run on six hits and struck out five over five innings to get his league-leading ninth win of the season. Barret Browning pitched two innings to earn his fifth save of the season.

Beloit starter Tyler Robertson (1-1) pitched a complete game in taking the loss for the Snappers.

Chris Pettit finished the night 2 for 2 as the Kernels had five hits in game one.

The win keeps the Kernels playoff hopes alive as they improve to 37-27. Beloit falls to 41-24.

Sean O'Sullivan (4-3) comes off the DL to start game two for the Kernels against Matt Fox (3-0) for Beloit.
