Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

DAVENPORT, IA -- Swing of the Quad Cities starting pitcher Brad Furnish allowed two hits over six shutout innings in a 5-1 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Thursday night at John O'Donnell Stadium. A three-run home run by Luke Gorsett in the eighth inning put the game out of reach.

The Swing (37-29) took the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Daryl Jones doubled to start the inning. Jaime Landin singled in Jones. Brandon Buckman drove in Landin with a double for his 52nd RBI of the year and a 2-0 lead.

Furnish retired the first thirteen batters he faced. Carlos Peguero doubled with one out in the fifth inning for the first Wisconsin hit of the game. But, Peguero was left stranded at third when the inning ended. Furnish struck out one and did not walk a batter in his outing.

The Rattlers (19-46) got to Tyler Herron in the top of the seventh. Peguero drove in a run with a fielder's choice and Wisconsin was down 2-1.

Adcock worked a scoreless seventh to complete his night of work. The Rattler righty struck out five and walked none, but the two runs on six hits were enough to charge him with the loss.

The Swing had nobody on with two outs in the bottom of the eighth. But, Rattler reliever Drew Fiorenza issued a walk and gave up a single to let two runners on base. Then, Gorsett crushed a 1-1 pitch to left for his third homer of the season.

Herron worked a 1-2-3 ninth and picked up the three inning save. It was Herron's first professional save.

The Rattlers wrap up the first half with a three game series against the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Anthony Varvaro (3-7, 5.68) is the scheduled starter Friday for Wisconsin. Vladimir Veras (0-1, 2.25) is set to start for the Kernels. Game time is 7:00pm.
