Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, OH - The excitement of Wednesday's division clinching win for the Dayton Dragons really never had the chance to die down. Less than 24 hours later, the Dragons were in an extra inning tussle with the South Bend Silver Hawks who were looking for a win to keep their first half Wild Card hopes alive. Dayton picked up its third "walk off" win in the month of June at Fifth Third Field on a Logan Parker 10th inning RBI double giving the Dragons a 3-2 win in front of 9,204 fans at Fifth Third Field.

The clubs traded runs early on as Dayton picked up a single tally in the bottom of the second inning off South Bend starter Eddie Romero (ND) on a two out single by Justin Tordi that scored Eddy Rodriguez. South Bend answered in the top of the fourth on a pair of hits and a Dragons error. With two down and Daniel Perales at first base, Yunesky Sanchez singled to left advancing Perales to third base. When Dragons right fielder Denis Phipps overran the ball, Perales scored and the game was tied at 1-1.

The unearned run scored in the fourth by the Silver Hawks was the only blemish on the night for Daniel Guerrero (ND). Guerrero went a season best 6.0 innings, allowing the one run on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Guerrero was aided by his defense as the Dragons turned four double plays in the six innings that Guerrero worked.

Justin Turner, one of the three Dragons starters in next Tuesday's MWL All-Star Game, came through off Romero in the bottom half of the fifth with another two out run batted in. Turner's single to right-center scored Phipps, who reached on a lead off single and moved to second on a ground out, giving Dayton a 2-1 advantage.

Anthony Gressick (ND) tossed 0.1 innings in relief, followed by an inning from Lee Tabor (ND) to get the ball to closer Jose Rojas (ND). Rojas got the final two outs in the eighth inning, but allowed a lead off home run to Shea McFeely in the top of the ninth. McFeely's fourth home run of the season tied the game at 2-2.

Parker was the offensive hero for the Dragons on Thursday night, as his three hits paced the Dragons. None was bigger than the RBI double in the bottom of the 10th inning off Silver Hawk reliever Eric Butler (LP, 0-2). Jason Louwsma led off the frame with his second hit of the night, a single to center. Parker followed with a blast to dead center over the head of Tyler Jones that one hopped the wall 402 feet away from the plate. Louwsma scored from first with the winning run.

The Parker RBI made a winner of Ramon Geronimo (WP, 3-1) who pitched a scoreless 10th to become the pitcher of record for the Dragons.

The Dragons go back on the road to wrap up the first half of the season with three games against the West Michigan Whitecaps beginning Friday night with a 7:00 PM first pitch. RHP Rafael Gonzalez (8-1, 2.24 ERA) will make the start for the Dragons, and he will be opposed by major league veteran LHP Kenny Rogers, making a rehab start for the Detroit Tigers organization. 1410 ESPN Radio WING AM will carry the game live beginning with the Dragons Pre Game Show at 6:30 PM. All Dragons games in 2007 are also carried live on the internet via All In Broadcasting at www.daytondragons.com.
