GENEVA, IL - First baseman Greg Dowling recorded his first professional four-hit game, Mike Massaro and Alex Valdez homered and a trio of pitchers logged a shutout as the Kane County Cougars rolled to an 8-0 win Monday night over the Clinton LumberKings in front of 7,199 fans at Elfstrom Stadium. The Cougars have won seven of their last nine games and shut out the opposition for the fourth time.

Starter Henry Rodriguez (3-3) picked up the win, lasting five innings, allowing six hits, walking two and striking out a season-high seven. Then Shane Presutti handled the next three innings before Derrick Gordon's scoreless ninth.

The offense broke through against Broc Coffman (5-2) in the third, as Massaro grounded out with the bases loaded, Jermaine Mitchell plated one with a fielder's choice and Dowling singled to make it 3-0. Coffman left, and the Cougars proceeded to knock around his replacement, Jon Hollis, in the fourth. Alex Valdez singled in a tally, and Massaro blasted a two-run smash for his first round-tripper of the year and a 6-0 game.Todd Johnson walked with the bases loaded in the fifth, and Valdez went deep in the eighth to close out the scoring.

The Cougars (22-44) continue their five-game homestand Friday night at 6:30 CDT against the Burlington Bees (29-37), who have won four straight. James Heuser (4-2) will face Josh Cribb (1-5).
