Silver Hawks Take Series With 5-3 Win

LANSING- The South Bend SilverHawks took advantage of several Lansing miscues in the final two innings to pull away from the Lugnuts and win the series finale 5-3 on Tuesday afternoon at Oldsmobile Park. The Lugnuts have dropped three consecutive series.
South Bend led the game 2-1 in the eighth inning, but extended the advantage by two runs in frame. Gerardo Parra singled to right and moved to second on the play via Travis Snider's fielding error in right. Brad Miller then hit a ground ball to Josh Bell at third, but Bell dropped the baseball while trying to tag out Parra. After Justin Brashear was hit by a pitch, Shea McFeely ripped a single to bring home Parra and make it 3-1. Another run crossed the plate on a Yunesky Sanchez sacrifice fly to put the lead at 4-1.
Lansing fought back in the bottom half of the frame plating two runs of its own on a Travis Snider double to center field that cut the lead to 4-3. However South Bend added one more in the ninth and held on for the win.
The Lugnuts had taken a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Snider singled home Chris Gutierrez. Snider finished the game 2-for-4 with 3 RBI.
South Bend tied it up with a run in the fifth and took the lead in the following inning on a Parra RBI double.
Each starting pitcher turned in quality starts, but Brett Anderson (5-3) was able to outduel Graham Godfrey (1-1) for the win.
Anderson tossed seven innings and allowed one run on three hits while fanning eight.
Godfrey lasted six frames and surrendered two runs on six hits. Only one run was earned.
Lansing (18-17) will take Wednesday off before hitting the road on Thursday for an eight-game road trip, beginning with four at Wisconsin. First pitch Thursday is set for 7:35 p.m. in Appleton, Wisconsin.
