Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GENEVA, IL -- Haas Pratt's two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning was enough for Kane County. The Cougars beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 3-1 Tuesday afternoon at Elfstrom Stadium. TJ Franco got the win for the Cougars in relief. Scott Moore picked up a save in the second straight game.
Kyle Parker was called on to make an emergency start for the Timber Rattlers just before the start of the game. Scheduled starter Ricky Orta developed a cut on the second finger of his pitching hand while warming up in the bullpen before the game. Parker was in and out of trouble in the first four innings, but kept the Cougars (9-28) scoreless. Until the fifth inning.
Mike Massaro singled with one out in the bottom of the fifth and stole second. Parker got the second out, but walked Greg Dowling to put two Cougars on base. A wild pitch by parker put those two runners on second and third. Pratt singled to center to drive in Massaro and Dowling to give Kane County a 2-0 lead.
Wisconsin (10-26) scored with a little help from the Cougar defense in the top of the sixth. Leury Bonilla doubled to start the inning. He stole third and scored on a throwing error by Cougar catcher Jake Smith.
But, the Cougars went up 3-1 with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Jermaine Mitchell started the inning with a double. Isaac Omura followed with an RBI double put Kane County up 3-1.
Franco gave up a hit in the seventh and a hit in the eighth, but kept the Rattlers from getting closer. Moore worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his third save of the season.
The Rattlers are off on Wednesday. They begin a six game home stand on Thursday evening when the Lansing Lugnuts will be in town to start a four game series. Nathan Adcock (0-3, 3.52) is scheduled to start for Wisconsin. Chase Lirette (4-2, 2.80) is slated to start for the Lugnuts. Game time on Time Warner Cable at Fox Cities Stadium is 6:35pm.
