FORT MILL, S.C.- Despite the largest crowd of the season, the Charlotte Knights were unable to send fans home happy, losing to Columbus 4-1. A crowd of 8,852 on a beautiful spring night, watched Clippers pitcher Emiliano Fruto (1-1, 2.25 ERA) strike out seven Knights while only giving up one run.
Knights pitcher Vladimir Nunez (1-1, 2.87 ERA) suffered his first loss of the season striking out four and giving up two earned ones in 4.2 innings of work. The Knights managed only three hits on the night.
The Knights and Clippers end their two-game series on Sunday. LHP Heath Phillips (1-1, 3.06 ERA) will start for the Knights, while LHP Mike Bacsik (0-1, 0.87 ERA) takes the mound for the Red Wings. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
