Lansing wins Whitecaps home opener

COMSTOCK PARK - Brian Pettway drove in four runs as Lansing played for the first time this season and defeated the Whitecaps, 8-3.

Pettway delivered a two run single in the first inning as the Lugnuts drew four first inning walks off Whitecaps starting pitcher Duane Below. In the seventh inning, Pettway capped a three-run rally with a two-run double.

Below issued a total of six walks in just 2.2 innings pitched and took the loss.

Josh Bell led off the seventh with a home run for Lansing, which was the first allowed by the Whitecaps this season. Jeff Kunkel led the West Michigan offense as he went 2-for-3 with a pair of run-scoring hits.

Bell, Sean Shoffit and Yuber Rodgiruez scored two runs each for Lasning. Rodriguez drew three walks and finished 1-for-2 with an RBI.

The Whitecaps are 0-3 for the first time since an 0-4 start in 2003.

Game Two: The second game in the brief two-game homestand will be Tuesday at Fifth Third Ballpark. On Wednesday and Thursday, the two teams will play at Oldsmobile Park. Below are the expected pitching match ups:
