Washington, DC (January 17, 2007) - D.C. United today officially announced the first round of tryouts for its boys U-14 and U-16 and girls U-14 and U-15 youth teams. The boys U-14 and U-16 teams are the only teams that will compete in a year-round format, while all other teams will compete during the summer in the Super Y-League. Velocity Sports Performance, the Official Sports Performance Company of D.C. United and D.C. United's youth teams will present all D.C. United youth tryouts.

"In 2007, we can all look forward to a complete year-round training schedule for our U-14 and U-16 boys teams, consisting of indoor and outdoor practices, strength and conditioning sessions, goalkeeper training and high level competitions," said Youth Development Director John Maessner. "We also plan on providing more opportunities and experiences for our youth players to get even closer to D.C. United's first team."

"Major League Soccer has asked its clubs to focus on youth development programs that will reap dividends by providing talented players directly into a senior system in the near future," added United Co-managing Partner Will Chang. "Led by Dave Kasper and John Maessner, I believe that we've developed a system that can benefit our team and talented young players from throughout our region. Our ownership is committed to seeing this initiative through by providing the support and resources necessary to achieve our lofty goals."
