Portland, ME - The Eastern League of Professional Baseball is pleased to announce that Akron Aeros manager Tim Bogar has been selected as the 2006 Eastern League Manager of the Year. In his first season with the Aeros, Bogar has led his club to a league-best record of 79-51 (.608). The Aeros currently have a 7.5 game lead in the Southern Division standings and are poised to win the Southern Division regular season title for the fourth time in the past five seasons. Bogar, who was selected by Baseball America as the "Best Manager Prospect" in the Eastern League this season, is joined on his staff by coaches Scott Radinsky and Felix Fermin, athletic trainer Jeff Desjardins and strength and conditioning coach Brendon Huttmann.

Tim started his managerial career with the Greeneville Astros of the Appalachian League in their inaugural 2004 season, leading the team to a 41-26 (.612) record and the Appalachian League championship. Bogar continued his success the following season with the Lexington Legends of the South Atlantic League, leading his club to a record of 81-58 (.583) and being named the 2005 South Atlantic League Manager of the Year. Tim then came to Akron to replace 2005 Eastern League Manager of the Year Torey Lovullo, who is now the manager of the Buffalo Bisons of the International League.

Bogar's career in professional baseball started as a player when he was selected by the New York Mets in the eighth round of the June 1987 draft out of Eastern Illinois University. He spent nine seasons in the Major Leagues, including four with the Mets (1993-96), four with the Houston Astros (1997-2000) and one with the Los Angeles Dodgers (2001). In 701 Major League games during his career, Tim hit .228 (345-for-1516) with 69 doubles, nine triples, 24 homers, 180 runs scored, 161 RBI and 13 stolen bases.

Trenton manager Bill Masse finished second in the voting for the Manager of the Year Award and Altoona's Tim Leiper and Binghamton's Juan Samuel finished in a tie for third place in the voting. The award was voted on by respective Eastern League team managers and coaching staffs, sportswriters, radio and television broadcast personnel and other members of the media.

The winners of the Eastern League Pitcher of the Year and Rookie of the Year were also announced today and the announcement of the winner of the Eastern League Most Valuable Player Award will be made on Wednesday, August 30th.
