Barry Hertzler rejoins Sea Dogs

Portland, Maine- The Boston Red Sox have transferred right-handed pitcher Barry Hertzler to the Sea Dogs from Triple-A Pawtucket. Left-handed pitcher Randy Beam was placed on the disabled list. Additionally, catcher Mike Leonard was returned to Single-A Greenville. Catcher Mat Kent was transferred to Portland from Single-A Wilmington. Infielder Brian Myrow was placed on the temporary inactive list and infielder Iggy Suarez was activated from the temporary inactive list.

Hertzler began the year at Portland, appearing in 16 games and posting a 0-0 record with four saves and a 1.05 ERA. He earned a promotion to Triple-A Pawtucket on May 26th. At Pawtucket he appeared in 25 games and recorded a 4-2 record with two saves and a 4.87 ERA. The 25 year-old was drafted by the Red Sox in the 11th round of the June 2003 draft.

Beam has posted a 3-3 record with one save and a 4.56 ERA in 35 games with the Sea Dogs this season. The 24 year-old was drafted by the Red Sox in the 18th round of the June 2004 draft.

Kent was signed as a minor league free agent in February 2006. He played for the Australian team in the 2006 World Baseball Classic. In 33 games at Single-A Wilmington this season he hit .137 with two home runs and nine RBI's. The 26 year-old Australian was originally signed by the Seattle Mariners in 1998.

Leonard was called-up to Portland on August 5th from Single-A Greenville when Sea Dogs' catcher Alberto Concepcion was called-up to Pawtucket. Leonard appeared in two games for Portland hitting .250 (2-8) with a triple and two RBI's. The 24 year-old Connecticut native was signed by the Red Sox as a minor league free agent in June 2004.
